Our Three-Week Coral Quarantine Process
At Fins Up Reef Co. in Littleton, Colorado, our coral quarantine process includes three weeks of milbemycin oxime treatment with weekly potassium chloride (KCl) dips. This is part of how we prepare corals for sale and reduce the risk of unwanted pests entering a customer’s reef.
What our process includes
- A three-week coral quarantine period.
- Milbemycin oxime treatment during that period.
- Weekly potassium chloride (KCl) dips.
Does quarantine guarantee a pest-free coral?
No. Quarantine is not a pest-free guarantee. Pests or eggs may remain despite treatment. Our process reduces risk; it does not replace your own due diligence.
Before adding a coral to your aquarium
- Carefully inspect the coral, its base and any attached material.
- Use coral-appropriate dips when needed, following product directions and accounting for the coral’s sensitivity.
- Quarantine new additions before placing them in your display aquarium.
- Plan lighting, flow and spacing for the particular coral, and acclimate it gradually.
